VISIONS Endowment Fund

VISIONS Endowment Fund of the Vandalia-Butler Foundation and the Dayton Foundation was founded to enhance the educational experience for children attending Vandalia-Butler City Schools.

The VISIONS Endowment Fund finances unique learning opportunities for students in grades K-12.  Annually, the VISIONS Endowment Fund Board of Trustees awards grants.

The VISIONS Endowment Fund Board of Trustees also encourages contributions to, and directs grants from, the following Funds of the Vandalia-Butler Foundation:

Orville Cotterman was a renowned citizen of the Vandalia-Butler community for many years.  He served on the founding council for the city of Vandalia and later as a school board member.  His children established this fund in 2002 to honor Mr. Cotterman's 90th birthday.  The fund continues to support enrichment activities at the local elementary and middle schools.  Grants from this fund have covered the cost of accelerated readers, trade books for special literature units, as well as mats needed for students with special needs.

Rebecca Bone Pelfrey was a lifelong resident of the Vandalia-Butler community.  Her family established this fund early in 2010 to support family consumer science and visual arts in the Vandalia-Butler Schools.  Utilizing the grant procedure of the VISIONS Endowment Fund, teachers may request support of innovative activities in these curricular areas.  In this manner, Rebecca's legacy and commitment to the students and community will live on.

Blake LaForce, a 2009 graduate of Butler High School, fought a valiant battle against cancer and its complications.  His positive attitude and hard-working spirit has since become an inspiration to many young athletes in the Vandalia-Butler community.  The spirit of building the character of the Vandalia-Butler youth is the impetus for the Blake LaForce #41 Memorial Fund.  The LaForce family understands the importance of educating the "whole child" and the role that athletics plays in that process.  This fund will support not only student athletes, but also target "needs" within the overall high school athletic program.

The ART Fund or Auditorium Renovation Team was originally established in 1998 to support the renovation of the Butler High School Auditorium.  Following almost two years of fundraising and research, the remodeled Performing Arts Theatre had its grand opening in February 2001 to a crowd of almost 800 community members and contributors.  Since that time, the ART Fund has provided resources for activities that utilize the BHS Theatre.  Funds have brought renowned children's author, Patricia Polacco, to our schools as well as many MUSE Machine artists' performances.  Donations to the ART Fund keep the "arts alive" in our schools through the use of this facility.

Refer to the grant procedures page to receive information about writing a grant from one of these funds.
