Roll of Recognition
VISIONS Endowment Fund Announces
2010 Honorees
The Board of Trustees of the VISIONS Endowment Fund has chosen three individuals to receive the 2010 Roll of Recognition Award. This recognition program highlights outstanding achievements or contributions to the Vandalia-Butler students, schools, and community. Bringing these people into the spotlight is in keeping with the Endowment Fund's mission of promoting excellence in education through financial support of innovative and progressive ideas.
Honorees for the 2010 awards include: Vandalia Fire Chief, Chad Follick, retired teacher and coach, Jack Hollon, and community business leader, Jean Maychack.
Chad Follick has been chosen as the outstanding alumnus to receive the Roll of Recognition Award. He is a lifelong Vandalia resident and 1991 graduate of Butler High School. According to his family, Chad began his life of service with the local fire department as a teenage member in the Fire Explorer program. Upon graduation from BHS, he became a paid on-call member of the fire department. Professional colleagues explain that, as Chief, he not only keeps a high standard for customer care but also is clear about his expectations of his employees. Community members also appreciate the time he spends volunteering in the area as a coach and youth mentor. Chad's wife Amy, and daughter Olivia, are very proud of his accomplishments.
Jack Hollon is the recipient of the outstanding educator Roll of Recognition Award for 2010. Jack retired in 1992 after teaching and coaching for thirty years in the Vandalia-Butler Schools. Industrial arts may have been his field but his focus was always on the students as he taught them the value of hard work, respect and strength of character. Industrial arts was presented as a practical application of more academic subjects, such as Math and English. A former colleague describes Jack as a coach who demonstrated sportsmanship and pride, as well as the traits of teamwork, cooperation and hard work on, and off, the field. The students and community have benefited from Jack Hollon's involvement as a educator and coach. As Jack and his wife Judy reside in Butler township, he continues to work and mentor young adults.
Jean Maychack was selected as the outstanding community member to receive the 2010 Roll of Recognition Award. Jean is described by her business colleagues as a "home-grown girl who works unselfishly to build her community." Upon graduating from BHS in 1976, Jean attended Sinclair and then Miami University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School, which is a prestigious honor as a student may attend only upon recommendations and an invitation from the university. As president of the family construction company VanCon, Inc., Jean works hard at continuing to encourage appropriate economic development for our area. Her involvement with After Prom, the Chamber Board, Rotary, Sister Cities, Relay for Life and the VISIONS Endowment Fund make her a worthy recipient as the outstanding community member.
The public is invited to join the trustees in honoring these three individuals at the VISIONS benefit on Saturday, February 27, 2010. The event will be held at the Crossroads Expo Center on Poe Avenue.
